Greetings. This is my first post on my first blog. I don't know whether to post random thoughts or to start talking about who I am and what I want to do with life.
I'll start with a random thought. I find myself wishing my life away as I await the next episode of Heroes. If you are a fan, then you understand. If not, when the NBC series starts running reruns this summer, I would highly recommend checking it out.
Now, on with the show.
I am a 34 year old father of 2 wonderful girls. I have been married for almost 8 years and it just keeps getting better. I am not a typical man when it comes to relationships. I love my wife with all that I am. She is my best friend and we have not been apart for more than 10 days total since we started dating in June of 1997. I believe that you get out of a relationship what you put in.
I was born and raised just ouside of Atlanta, GA. I think I am one of the few natives left in this state. The influx of new residents had grown expotentially for several years and that has changed the landscape of this wonderful state. Good on one side, but bad on another. This is no longer the area I grew up loving and the traffic is as bad outside the city as it is inside. It a shame in my opinion. I love the diversity, but dispise the crowds. Every attraction, mall, and public place seems to be overflowing all the time and it's hard to enjoy taking the family out sometimes.
I am an avid sports, t.v., and movie buff. I love the Georgia Bulldogs. I live and die by Fantasy Football every year. I'm in a love/hate relationship with the Atlanta Falcons. I have enjoyed the Braves since 1982 and even stuck with them through the "dark years" (1984-1990). I am indifferent to the Thrashers. I don't feel hockey belongs in the South, but with all the Northerners living here now, I guess it's good that they can see their home teams when they visit. I could not care less about the Hawks or basketball in general. I loved the Dominique WIlkins years, but since then, they've been completely forgetable. March Madness is a bright spot in an otherwise boring sports season. I am also one of the few true southern folk that has no interest in NASCAR.
My favorite T.V. shows include the aforementioned Heroes, Lost, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, The Class, C.S.I., and Smallville. I am a purist when it comes to reality shows sticking to Survivor and American Idol. Everything else is pretty much crap. I love Tivo. If you don't have it yet...get it. Next to the iPod, I feel it is the single most important technological innovation to come around in my lifetime. And I do not own an iPod.
On any given day, I prefer a senseless comedy or a slasher horror flick. My favorite movies include Ferris Bueler's Day Off, Little Nicky, The LoTR Trilogy, The ORIGINAL Star Wars Trilogy, Halloween, A Christmas Story, and Weird Science.
I am a child of the 80's. In many ways, I am still stuck there. The movies, music and childhood memories have stuck with me. I am overjoyed at the recent release of many of my favorite 80's T.V. cartoons and sitcoms to DVD. He-Man, Transformers, Thundercats, Family Ties, The Cosby Show, Dungeons & Dragons, Pee Wee's Playhouse. Man, those were great shows that still hold up today. Not many things from your childhood do. I rented The New Zoo Revue recently for my kids. We all agreed that it pretty much sucked. I can't wait for the inevitible release of Silver Spoons. Man, did I want to live in that house. Good Times.
As I mentioned above, I LOVE everything Star Wars. I have seen Star Wars well over 500 times and I find it gets better everytime I watch it. I cannot wait for the HD release later this year. I was 5 when it came to a theater in my area and my Dad took my brother and me to see it. It's amazing to remember how it made me feel and I don't remember much from that time in my life. I do remember my brother getting the "Early Bird" action figure set before the movie came out and thinking there has never been anything so cool. Most action figures at the time consisted of Mego, 12" G. I. Joe, and Fisher Price Little People and Adventure People.
My favorite time of year is Fall. Give me a cool cloudy Autumn day and I will not be happier. My favorite holidays are Halloween and Christmas. For me, the "holiday" season officially starts on my birthday in mid-October. Just as it starts to get cool, I can get into full on holiday mode and coast until New Year's Day.
I guess that's enough rambling for now. I hope to post my thoughts on a regular basis and welcome any questions or comments on the above.
